Originally used for their dual purose of high quality beef and for their large production of milk in France, Parthenais are a very adaptable breed to extreme conditions. They are known as being the leanest beef cattle, even lower in cholesterol than chicken. The Parthenais bulls are extremely fertile and are hard strenuous workers. The females are known to have ease in calving due to their light bone structure with 94% of fullbloods needing no birthing assistance.
Parthenais are "double-muscled", meaning that high levels of lean muscle can develop without being limited by the usual biological systems. They convert feed to weight very efficiently, without needing extremely high feeding volumes. This is one of the reasons they are said to have a high adapability to all terrains and weather conditions.
